ONE OK ROCK rolls out “Change” in Japanese and English

Yesterday ONE OK ROCK uploaded their latest music video Change in two versions titled “Japanese ver” on their official channel and “Official video” on the Fueled By Ramen YouTube channel. This caught me by surprise as bands tend to release one of the versions much later than the initial one. Excited to play spot the difference, I slammed on the play button. Let’s take a look at the English version first:

So what was the difference? At 1:11min, Taka sings two lines in Japanese and there are some minor graphics and visual differences. It doesn’t take a magnifying glass to spot that the “Japanese ver” is 90% English. Perhaps it was the title which was misleading or the fact that it’s pretty much the same video with 15 seconds of different footage, but it left me a little disappointed.

For older fans who have complained for the longest time regarding their change in sound—yes, this song would once again come under your pop-rock song umbrella dressed with some interesting enough visuals, but there are some significant things we should take into account. Taka’s voice is outstanding in this track, showing off his vocal range and talent particularly in the chorus, the lyrics are uplifting and motivating, and the instruments are great—so what more can we really ask for?
