A tragedy befell Matenrou Opera’s (摩天楼オペラ) drummer, Yu. On February 4, at CLUB JUNK BOX the talented percussionist revealed that he suffers from a painful medical condition called occupational dystonia. The state of his health and inability to treat the condition has forced him to withdraw from the band and retire from music. The upsetting news filled the whole venue with tears and sadness. The last chance to see him live will be on March 2, at EX THEATER ROPPONGI. Don’t miss your chance to show him your love and respect one last time if you can.

Below is an official statement from the band’s record label.

Thank you for your continuous support of Matenrou Opera. Today at the 10th Anniversary’s PANTHEON TOUR – coda- performance on February 4, 2018, in Sendai, it was announced that drummer Yu is withdrawing from Matenrou Opera.

Yu has been undergoing exstensive treatments for his condition called occupational dystonia for a long time. His left arm has been suffering for a long time now and his left hand no longer moves. There are no official treatments or modern medicine for dystonia. A lot of efforts have been made to try to improve Yu’s condition. Sadly, due to no improvement, Yu has decided to withdraw from the band. We hope you can respect his decision.

Yu’s final stage performance will take place at the 10th Anniversary “PANTHEON Tour-Overture-” live on March 2, 2018, at EX THEATER ROPPONGI.

We are so sorry for the sudden announcement and hope you can understand.

Yu, an original member of the group and longtime friend of vocalist Sono, will sorely be missed by his bandmates and fans. We hope that a cure will surface—despite the odds—so he can return to Matenrou Opera someday soon.
