Sakanaction teases two albums and DVD for 10th anniversary

Rejoice, Sakanaction fans, for the band have made a three-part announcement to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their major debut! The trio of updates includes a new album, their first best-of album, and video work of their live performances from their 2017 shows.

Starting with the first slice of exciting news, the new album will be their first one in five years. It has limited information divulged at the moment, but vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi hints at a spring release date.

The second piece of news is to announce the Blu-ray and DVD for an incredibly long-titled live recording of
SAKANAQUARIUM2017 10th ANNIVERSARY Arena Session 6.1ch Sound Around. This is indeed in 6.1 surround sound as it says on the tin. More information will be announced for both the new album and video release at a later date.

Thirdly, the best-of album titled Sakana Zukan (魚図鑑) otherwise titled Book of Fishes in English—is due out later this month on March 28. This album of completely remastered tracks will be summarizing the work from SAKANACTION so far before they head towards a new phase. This best-of compilation will have four editions, the most noteworthy being a jumbo 49 track release across three CDs named “Shallow”, “middle layer”, and “deep sea” in relation to their fish themed band name. All versions of the best-of album will include one new song titled KAGEROU, and we have heard a snippet of this trailer and behind the scenes for upcoming film for the fantasy action manga adaption of Donten ni Warau (曇天に笑う):

Since the debut ten years ago, I’ve felt resistance to calling music “work”.
Even now, I am not planning to face music as “work”.

Whilst creating this new album, I tried to listening to the old songs again. I felt relieved in listening that I didn’t make a mistake to create music that way.

I have a good feeling that the new album that is due out in the spring will be created with this positive direction.
