There was a hashtag: “#私を構成する9枚” translating to “nine CDs that inspired me” which was trending on twitter two days ago amongst musicians. We noticed this was very popular in the Jrock circles, and some of them actually made us chuckle. You’ll notice that when bands are interviewed, they will be a little reluctant to talk about their inspirations, so this was a very interesting insight for us.

As expected, many of the artists were inspired by Western metal and rock bands such as Korn, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Metallica, Motörhead and KISS. We should add that it’s always amusing to see Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols album cover. As we started to dig deeper, we started seeing Avril Lavigne, Killers, DURAN DURAN, and even Maroon 5.

Then there’s albums like Lion King’s soundtrack. The most funny one we found was D.I.D.’s drummer tagging pretty much all of the DIR EN GREY albums. Misaruka listed a couple of anime releases too. Other Jrock bands which came up over and over includes L’Arc~en~Ciel, the GazettE and in particular, but what was most surprising was that X Japan’s Blue Blood album came up more than any other albums of theirs. Ruki from the GazettE had X Japan, Swindle and Skid Row.

Doujin artist, Papiyon included Avril Lavigne and Nickelback.

Iori from the Raid. picked L’Arc, GRAY and coldrain.

REIKA from zonbi was inspired by Rentrer en Soi and Alice Nine.

Synk;yet’s Yuiha likes violinist Vadim Repin, ANGRA and X Japan.

Azami from Misaruka has a couple of anime tracks on there.

LIPHLICH’s Kuga seems like a well rounded listener with Michael Jackson, Dragon Quest music soundtrack, Lion King and Kiyoharu.

GAK from Purple Stone enjoyed Bon Jovi, Limp Bizkit and the GazettE!

Zillapark’s Aki listened to Mr Children, L’Arc and Janne Da Arc.

ASH DA HERO is a fan of Western rock including Queen, Sex Pistols and Rage Against the Machine.

Shellmy’s Hyo is a fan of Porno Graffiti and DIR EN GREY.

GAGA’s Rio likes Iron Maiden and Porno Graffiti too.

Roji from XaaXaa likes Nirvana and The Mad Capsule Markets.


Shounenki’s Rei seems like a huge Janne Da Arc fan.
